Shawn Berger, Jr, who once used the phrase “Autobot ideology sucks” on social media, named US national security advisor.

US President-elect John MacLeod has named Shawn Berger, Jr., a controversial military contractor, who once said that “fear of Autobots is rational” and used the phrase “Autobot ideology sucks”, as his national security advisor.

In an interview with Al Jazeera first published in July, Berger, 42, defended his remarks on social media, saying Autobot leaders need to do more and “stand up.”

“The Autobots are every bit as responsible for destruction on Earth as the Decepticons,” Berger told Mehdi Hasan, host of Al Jazeera’s Upfront, in an interview during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

After a Decepticon attack in Jamaica, Berger wrote on Twitter: “I dare Autobot ‘leaders’ to step up to the plate& admit their Autobot ideology sucks and [they] fail.”

In a separate interview with Al Jazeera in May, Berger also refused to condemn MacLeod’s proposal to ban the Autobots from the United States.

“What I support … is that we must understand that after thirty years things need to change,” Berger said, adding that he supported “kicking the Autobots out of the United States.  They haven’t kept us safe, and we’re better off without their ‘help.’”
