Seattle Memorial Hospital, opened in 1960, is a full-service nonprofit health care provider located on a beautifully landscaped 33-acre (13 hectare) campus just minutes north of downtown Seattle. It is Seattle's only independent full-service, non-profit hospital north of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The organization is dedicated to raising the long-term health status of the surrounding community by providing personalized, quality care with compassion, dignity ,and respect.
Seattle Memorial Hospital is noted as a national leader in the successful treatment of brain cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer. The hospital pioneered ultrasound radioactive seed implantation and other innovative procedures to treat prostate cancer. The Seattle Breast Center at Seattle Memorial Hospital provides all-digital mammography, breast health screenings, breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Seattle Memorial Hospital is a leading provider in the Pacific Northwest of Gamma Knife radiosurgery for treatment of functional diseases of the brain, and is also a center for advance treatments of neurological disorders and diseases, including Deep Brain Stimulation. The hospital has established preeminent programs in cardiology, including an open heart surgery program, with the UW Medicine Regional Heart Center. The Seattle Memorial Hospital Childbirth Center is known for its creation of the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum room concept for childbirth. The hospital offers innovative rehabilitation therapy in unique therapy environment called Easy Street, a full-scale replica of a cityscape.
