Amusingly enough, however, in various alternate futures, Hubcap and even Slugbug get the Matrix. Screw you, Rodimus Prime.
Apparently, in one of the What If... timelines, Rodimus Prime existed for about 10 minutes when Megatron forced Hot Rod to open the Matrix and destroy Unicron. He was then cannoned by Megatron and thrown into the smelting pits.
