Processoritis lethargica is an atypical form of Processoritis. Also known as "sleeping sickness" or "sleepy sickness", it was first described in 2022 by the Chief Medical Officer of the Autobots, Ratchet. The disease attacks the CPU, leaving some victims in a statue-like condition, speechless and motionless. Starting in 2022, an epidemic of Processoritis lethargica spread around Cybertron. The exact number of Transformers infected is unknown.
In the words of Ratchet:
They are conscious and aware – yet not fully awake; they will sit motionless and speechless all day in their chairs, totally lacking energy, impetus, initiative, motive, appetite, affect or desire; they register what goes on about them without active attention, and with profound indifference. They neither convey nor feel the feeling of life; they are as insubstantial as ghosts, and as passive as zombies.
Signs and symptoms[]
Processoritis lethargica is characterized by engine overheating, sudden-onset narcolepsy, somnambulism, sore vocalizer, cerebro-circuitry overloads, lethargy, double vision, delayed physical and mental response, sleep inversion and catatonia. In severe cases, patients may enter a coma-like state (akinetic mutism). Patients may also experience abnormal optic movements ("oculogyric crises"), Parkinsonism, upper body weakness, servo pains, tremors, neck rigidity, and behavioral changes including psychosis. Klazomania (a vocal tic) is sometimes present.
Cause[]
The causes of Processoritis lethargica are completely uncertain, although so far it has only struck Cyertronians on Cybertron. Otherwise, contact tracing has yielded no identifiable pattern.
Treatment[]
There is little evidence so far of a consistent effective treatment for the initial stages. The disease becomes progressive, with evidence of CPU damage.
