History[]
Early History[]
Leah Dwyer, known by her stage name Blaze, has led an extraordinary life filled with musical prowess and personal growth. Hailing from Santa Monica, CA, she was born Leo Dwyer on April 19th, 1993. As a prodigious musician from an early age, Blaze's journey has been one of profound transformation. Despite a past marred by mean-spiritedness and manipulation, she has since blossomed into a devoted and caring individual, fiercely protective of her bandmates The Misfits. Overcoming her history of bullying, Blaze has undergone a significant metamorphosis, embracing kindness and friendship with unwavering determination. Though plagued by occasional feelings of inadequacy, she remains steadfast in nurturing the bonds within the band and supporting their musical endeavors. Blaze's role as the lead singer of The Misfits is not just about music — it's a testament to her resilience, growth, and unwavering commitment to self-acceptance and authenticity.
Leading The Misfits[]
After Pizzazz fractured her larynx in a car accident, The Misfits were forced to audition for a temporary lead singer, because the band was contractually obligated to perform on a tour of the West Coast (Dark Jem, Part One). Blaze auditioned and was offered the job as lead singer - but was hesitant and upset and asked for a moment to think about it. Speaking to her girlfriend Clash, Blaze explained that she was worried because The Misfits is an all-girl band, and Blaze is unsure if that would be a safe environment for her because she is transgender.
Clash reassured her that The Misfits would accept her - but that if they didn't, they could go home and burn all their Misfits merchandise. Blaze went back into the studio and told Stormer, Roxy, and Jetta that she is transgender. They immediately accepted her and told her they're more concerned with whether she's reliable or not. Blaze accepted their offer to be the lead singer of The Misfits (Dark Jem, Part Two).
Blaze performed with the Misfits twice -- once in New York, and then again at the beginning of Jem and the Holograms' West Coast Tour.
On the West Coast Tour, The Misfits stayed in their green room during Jem and The Holograms' performance, and so are unaffected by Silica's virus being spread by The Holograms on-stage (Dark Jem, Part Two). They were unaware that the audience had been affected until the next day, when they found out along with everyone else via the news.
Creation and Development[]
Artist and creator Sophie Campbell has said she based Blaze's red and yellow streaked hair and color scheme on Sunset Shimmer, a character from the My Little Pony spin-off franchise Equestria Girls[1].
Appearance[]
Towering with a presence that commands the stage, Blaze stands as a formidable figure, her broad shoulders a testament to her unwavering strength. Vibrant red curls cascade like a molten cascade, a fiery mane intricately tamed into an open ponytail that proudly crowns her head. A striking contrast of straight yellow bangs frames her face, intermingling with stray wisps of yellow curls that dance with the intensity of her gaze. Her auburn eyebrows furrow with determination, accentuating eyes adorned in impeccable yellow and black makeup, drawing attention to the fire that blazes within.
Red freckles playfully dance across her cheeks like sparks from a flame, while mod makeup contours her left profile with precision, two bold pink lines emphasizing her fierce spirit. Proudly displayed on her bare shoulders is a jagged pink tattoo, a symbol of her unapologetic individuality etched into her very skin. Her torn grey shirt, knotted at her left upper arm, tells a tale of rebellion, a blaze of red and yellow zagged stripes on the right side reflecting her untamed yet refined style.
With arms that speak of power and determination, her fiery red fingernails gleam under the stage lights, a subtle yet potent reminder of her presence. Encased in sleek black leggings that hug her form, her legs descend into calf-length boots that gleam with a shiny black sheen, laced boldly with accents of vibrant pink. In every stride, she embodies the essence of a lead singer, fierce yet sensitive, a misfit unafraid to embrace her uniqueness and illuminate the stage with her blazing spirit.
