SWITCHBACK was a scout sent out in 1947 as one of many attempts to locate the missing Ark that had vanished millenia ago. Detecting Cybertronian alloys on Earth, he attempted to land but ended up crashing in a thunderstorm near Roswell, New Mexico. Forced to survive using only his wits, he hid as various car models in Los Angeles through the ensuing years and ended up purchased in his final form as a 1982 Trans Am to be used as a Hollywood prop car in the TV series Knight Rider in 1982. Seeing this as a way to ensure continued survival, he revealed his true nature, he arranged to become the 'star' and pose as the talking car of the series, K.I.T.T. In many ways he began to take on that persona over that of his original, preferring to go by the nickname Kitt. Once the series ended, he re-joined the Autobots with a tale for the ages to tell around the energon cube. Equipped with arm-mounted precision rifles, micro missiles, and specialized sensors, he is well suited to infiltration and general Special Operations.

History

Canonical/Pre-MUX/Theme History:

4 million years ago, Optimus Prime took the Ark with a contingent of Autobots and headed out to find a source of energy for their dying world. Contact with the ship was lost, and the Autobots remaining on Cybertron mourned. For millenia, searches were sent out, but none were ever successful in finding the lost Ark. That is, until the year 1947. Switchback was tasked with the next search, and he set off, eventually finding his way to Earth where for the first time in millions of years, a faint detection of Cybertronian alloys was detected. His scans showed the world was primitive, inhabited with a bipedal lifeform that had developed rather crude technologies such as internal combustion engines and rudimentary flight. He had to proceed carefully and began to fly his ship towards the source of the signal. Unfortunately, no sooner had he begun his descent, he discovered this planet had a very active atmosphere, and he flew into a powerful thunderstorm. Struck with lightning, his systems began to short out, and he careened out of control. He landed well off target, in a town called Roswell, New Mexico. Realizing this crash would bring the local inhabitants quickly, he had to move fast. Thus, he took all the gear and energon he could for survival and found an out of the way place to hide. He was helpless as their military came and collected the wreckage and hauled it away. Now he was stranded with no way to contact Cybertron, and no clue where his brethren were buried, if they were even alive at all.

His supplies were not going to last forever, so he used the cover of night to move to a major population center, eventually settling near Los Angeles by 1954. Setting up a base of sorts where he could stay out of the way, he contemplated how he was going to survive once his supplies ran out, as the trip had consumed a fair amount of his energon supply. The beings of this world, which he came to learn were called humans, had developed a fuel for their vehicles called 'gasoline' which he found could be used to sustain his life support systems. He did his best to acquire this fuel and left what he hoped was sufficient payment for it when he took it, as he had found the cave in which he had set up in contained a large quantity of yellow, shiny mineral that to humans apparently had a value. Rumors of a philanthropist began circulating for years, but even his supply of that ran out, and he was going to have to find another way to acquire it. To that end, he decided he would have to use his ability to blend in as a vehicle to his advantage. By this time, it was 1982, and he took on the form of a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am with a tan interior, a vehicle he found the humans considered 'sporty'. Sneaking into a shipment of used cars, he ended up a dealership, and was eventually purchased by a Hollywood studio prop department to be used in their upcoming TV series, Knight Rider.

Car mode

The show was supposed to feature a car equipped with AI, imagine their surprise when this very real car began talking to them. Switchback realized this was his opportunity to survive, so he worked out a deal. If they kept him maintained and 'fed', IE fueled, he would offer his talents for their show and 'star' as the car. Thus, his interior was doctored up with futuristic looking dashboards and circuits, and he ended up working with a human actor named David Hasselhoff. The series was a hit, but to Switchback surprise and joy, during the series run in 1985, his Autobot brethren were re-awakened. Sadly, by 1986, the show's ratings were starting to fall, and they filmed their last episodes. His obligations fulfilled, he re-joined his comrades, with one whopper of a tale to tell around the energon cube.

MUX History:

In 2022, Kitt returned to Cybertron.

In 2024, the Primum Fugae descended upon the Decepticon polity Mebion aboard the Titan Vigilem. During the fight that followed, Wryneck was rocketed in the back by Kitt after attacking Incognito from behind. Nightjar battled Kitt while Vigilem conquered Mebion.

OOC Notes

Kitt maintains the same voice as the show did. Most humans at this point would be aware that the car in the show really was a talking car and that he is actually an Autobot. Most Autobots on Earth would be aware, but Cybertronian Autobots most likely wouldn't know at first.

Oct 20 - Addendum to Crypt Attack

       During last night's attack on the Crypts, I had a rather unnerving feeling and managed to slip further in to investigate. I am afraid I have terrible, nay, perhaps terrifying news. The attack was a distraction for their real target. My fellow Autobots, I am afraid that the body of the Fallen was their target. It has been taken, and I shudder to think what evil intentions they may have for it. Re-animation perhaps, or Primus forbid, revival of the Fallen himself. It is my belief we must endeavour to track down these thieves as quickly as possible, or a nightmare may begin anew. Kitt out.

Oct 21 - Helex Intelligence Report

Helex Intelligence Log, recorded October 20th, 2022, Earth Reckoning. As part of my regular patrol duties I visited the city-state of Helex to gather more information on the situation there. What I have found is quite disturbing, but I will leave the final conclusions to Command. The entire city is covered with a 'Kudzu' like growth of vine-like cabling. It was observed that nearly the entire city is 'wired' with these vines, and they are carrying minute amounts of data. I have uploaded a sample of this data, as well as delivered a physical sample of the vines themselves to the lab for analysis. The vines proved to be an excellent means of entry to the central tower, but it was at that point I discovered the vines were not what they appeared to be.

Further into the tower, I observed an even more disturbing sight.

If this is who I think it is, then it is likely that Silent Grill titan is not as dead as once thought. It is indeed alive, although in such a state I wouldn't call it life. There were no other life forms observed, but I did not venture too far into the city after seeing the potential security that may be in place. End Report.

Nov 03 - AAR: Helex

       "Well, last night turned out to be quite the adventure. Following up on our leads in Helex, we discovered that Silent Grill had indeed not fallen by the wayside. They were, in fact, those who absconded with the body of the Fallen, and they were attempting a ritual which at first appeared to be for the purposes of restoring the Fallen to life. As we now see orbiting above us, it was their intention to revive the greatest threat to Cybertron, the Unmaker himself. I am hopeful that our efforts disrupted the process sufficiently to prevent his true return.

       "During the action, however, I detected that the energy they were utilizing was being focused, directed, and not simply by simple conduction through the vines. It was being modulated and controlled by as it turned out a Femme buried amongst the wires, in great pain, and apparently held against her will until our intervention released her. I caught a glimpse of the face, and it was the same face that 'emerged' from the vines during my initial scouting. I, personally, an curious as to the identity of this individual, and I believe we should make efforts to locate her if she is an object of attention of Silent Grill. Kitt Out."

Other joes join in, dressed up in various outfits. What is a light moment ends in tragedy. Or How Meggan's Convention was ruined by Cobra.
• October 6 - "What Cosmos Found" - Beneath Helex more mayhem lies.
