  • Type: FC
One's ultimate truth lies in one's molecular structure.

PERCEPTOR's thirst for knowledge is unquenchable. He will seek it to the exclusion of all else. To him, being on Earth is like a miner finding a new vein of gold - each eagerly plumbs untold riches, neither knowing when his source will run out, if ever. Perceptor's specific role in the Autobot cause is studying how best the Autobots should adapt to Earth, and conversely how Earth's alien environment is affecting the Autobots. Autobot Leader Optimus Prime considers this research vital to the Autobots' survival as long as they're marooned on Earth. Although good-natured and friendly, Perceptor is not easily drawn into joining with other Autobots to do anything other than his work.

Perceptor is extremely intelligent. His capacity for data storage is second only to Optimus Prime's. Although familiar with all the sciences, his specialties are metallurgy, molecular chemistry, and electrical engineering. He has two different capacities in microscope mode. He can magnify objects up to 10,000 times as an optical microscope and up to a million times as a scanning electron microscope. Using his magnifying lenses to concentrate and intensify its beam, he can convert his lens barrel to a powerful light cannon. It can blast a hole in a cinder block wall 2,000 miles away with pinpoint accuracy. He can use the cannon in robot mode or convert to a third form and use it as a stationary field artillery piece. He also carries a concussion rifle in robot mode.

If he were human, Perceptor might be called absent-minded, since he is rarely aware of anything but the work in front of him. He actually forgets at times that he is involved in a raging war and, as a result, is sometimes a casualty of it. His magnifying lenses, although resistant to cracking, are nevertheless the weak link in his make-up. Any problems with them not only can bring his work to a halt, but can also considerably reduce his offensive abilities.

History[]

Canonical/Pre-MUX/Theme History:[]

Perceptor arrived on Earth during the initial impact of the Ark into the planet. He had been present when the Ark crashed onto prehistoric Earth during the encounter with the Nemesis, but due to being in the more heavily damaged Ark belowdecks, he was not recovered and repaired for over a year.

Perceptor2

Microscope mode

During his period of habitation on that planetary body, he experienced a myriad of adventures. Included in that scope were incidents such as: reconfiguring his mass ratio to a microscopic scale in order to sever the connection of the Heart of Cybertron to Megatron's body; being abducted by the Decepticons, along with Seaspray; traveling through the interstellar void with Jazz to reacquire Cosmos from Saturn's moon Titan; and landing on an unexplored world in which Cybertronian lifeforms were minuscule in relation to the immense indigenous population.

Jul 18 - Analysis: Lt. Henshaw[]

<< The Autobot spinny pops up, replaced by an image of Perceptor >>

"Greetings and salutations, Autobots. I have spent the last several days conducting an extensive, yet non-invasive, examination of Second Lieutenant Lori Henshaw, who has indicated that the Decepticon known as Thunderwing performed some series of experiments upon her person to result in her newly acquired armor. With the permission of the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, I have examined the Lieutenant's medical records in detail.

"Lieutenant Henshaw's injuries were the result of a Cobra Night Raven's missiles destroying her Conquest X-30 aircraft while preparing for lift-off during the attack on Fort Hood some eleven months earlier. She was in a coma for nine months before regaining consciousness, during which time much of the shrapnel was removed from her body. Microscopic fragments, however, still remained in her chest, and with every movement they were digging their way further into her body, towards her heart and lungs.

"With assistance from GI Joe, the Lieutenant was fitted with an electromagnetic harness fitted to a wheelchair, which would give her some form of mobility while also keeping the microscopic shrapnel from digging any further into her body. For over a month, this did work to buy the humans some time to try and deal with her situation, but it seemed that she would never be able to walk again, due to paralysis from the waist down. And then she was abducted nearly three weeks ago, apparently by Thunderwing.

"I have been consulting with Brainstorm, perhaps the foremost expert in matters pertaining to biomechanical engineering, in an effort to understand what Thunderwing did to Lieutenant Henshaw. What we have been able to ascertain is that the implantation of the armor into the Lieutenant was not done lightly. Indeed, the Lieutenant's body was completely rebuilt at the molecular-genetic level. Her physiology is several times more efficient now than the typical human. Her bone density is tripled, meaning the force required to break a bone is substantially higher. Her skeletal structure has also been fitted with numerous small reservoirs that serve to store and contain her armor when not in use. Her muscular structure has been enhanced to a certain degree, making her stronger. Her nervous system is more bio-neural circuitry than anything else, and her brain functions seem to indicate the prospect of incredibly high levels of data storage and retention. In fact, from all indications, her body is acting as a combination bio-fuel/solar energy capacitor -- in effect, her body is literally an organic battery for the armor itself!

"The armor is a room-temperature mimetic polyalloy that functions as a memory metal -- this allows the armor to seep through her body and cover her before assuming a fully rigid state, yet the ease with which she maintains her full range of movement is unhindered. The armor is far stronger than what the United States military currently utilizes, though I don't believe it's rated as strongly as that of Circuit Breaker. It houses an additional fuel system that allows for consumption of energon, which works in tandem with her bio-fuelling (read, eating and drinking, as the humans prefer to call it) and solar energy absorption.

"The armor is possessed of flight capabilities that exceed Mach 5, allowing her to actually escape Earth's gravity, yet aside from her increased oxygen efficiency, there is little space for storage of oxygen to keep her going for more than an hour before suffocation commences. The armor also can propel her underwater, though such excursions are similarly limited by her oxygen reserves.

"The armor is also outfitted with weaponry -- while admittedly low-powered compared to our own technology, I believe she is still quite capable of defending herself quite well against Cobra, or even the Decepticons given the reports of her encounter with Skywarp. Concussive energy blasters in the gauntlet palms -- which also serve as flight stabilizers during flight -- as well as a sonic screech attack that can induce a vertigo effect, a plasmic-based chest-mounted weapon that also serves as the means to "ingest" energon, and bomblets that can be fired in a spread pattern for an area-effect attack.

"During this rather exhaustive analysis, I have scanned for any sort of control devices of a kin similar to Bombshell's cerebro-shells, or any tracking devices, with the assistance of First Aid. I am pleased to report that there are none in evidence -- Thunderwing is not controlling her in any way, nor does he have any programming or systems installed that are tracking her for his observation. In that, GI Joe and the Autobots both can rest easy.

"However, there is a catch: the circuitry that links Lieutenant Henshaw to the Banshee armor, as she's taken to calling it -- I will never understand human nomenclature in regards to 'callsigns' and the like -- is calibrated specifically to interface with her bio-neural circuitry. In fact, for all intents and purposes, it is literally an extension of her own body now. Due to the reformatting of her body at the molecular-genetic level, it is apparently dependent upon her, and she upon it -- it is a fascinating sort of symbiotic relationship.

"In short, the Banshee armor is here to stay, short of downloading Lieutenant Henshaw's memories into a Cybertronian body. But it is safe insofar as Brainstorm, First Aid and myself can ascertain. I will forward this report to Scarlett, since she is here as support for Lieutenant Henshaw, and let her disseminate it as necessary. Perceptor, signing off."

Feb 14 - Recent Theories regarding...[]

AUTOBOT SPINNY!

Perceptor appears on screen before a large 3-D star map, with a laser pointer in his hand. The red mech gestures to the map about him, stars being projected on his form as well as the area around him. "I believe I've ascertained a probable theory regarding Cybertron's recent erratic motions."

He steps off to the side, the camerabot following him. "As it is well known, Cybertron was famously moved from its original orbit, due to.....Decepticon 'shenanigans', ending up in a non-gravity orbit nearing the Sol System's planet Sol-4, colloquially called 'Earth' by its natives."

A somber look crosses his face, as he touches the Earth orbit, Cybertron holographically moving from that orbit into space proper, "Given the erratic behavior of our home, as well as the critical structural damage to Cybertron, it has taken me until now to project the actual destination of our home planet, on the most updated astrocharts."

He steps off to the side, indicating another system. "See here, errant system Citctus Minor. Not much to report on it per se. A few 'dead planets', an asteroid belt, and three free-floating planetoids. However, this sector was one of the earliest entries into the Astronomica Cybertronae."

Perceptor raises his hand, a finger upright as he hypothesizes. "Eighteen lightyears from our original orbit, charted even before the Tesaruian Nebuae, and of course, Charr and its sister planet Abunae." He pauses, to explain further, "This starchart is older than our nearest neighbors starcharts. We ventured forth there, even earlier than initial exploration. This induction of new data caused me to reinvestigate the sector, leading to what I consider to be a remarkable discovery."

Citctus Minor is shown on screen as Perceptor narrates. "Crossreferencing current starcharts to older entries, we find out that CM-2, and CM-3 are on decaying orbits, though nothing in older entries suggested that."

The hologram shows the elliptical orbit of the planets, then shows their decaying orbit. Something happened to change how the planets moved.
"I've managed to analyze the subtle variation, tracing back its history to the triggering event....One hundred and twenty eons ago." The words come out of his mouthplate in a reverent tone.

"A gravitational anomaly had occurred, moving from here...to out of orbit." The hologram shows how a question mark of some sort had brushed pass the two other planets, pulling moons from them as it went. These moons went on to be reidentified as planetoids in their own orbit.

"The math proves it. The gravitational anomaly...."

The hologram shows a question mark...and then fades into nothingness, revealing....Cybertron!
"was Cybertron itself. Twenty eons before the Golden Age."
Perceptor's tone just increases in solemnness and reverence as he continues, "Given the planets stability until that time, I believe...that Citctus Minor was where our homeworld...was forged." He lets the moment sit, "The star has nearly collapsed at this point. Citctus Minor had actually gone from yellow, to red, to white dwarf in our absence, and perhaps in kinship, it is collapsing upon itself, dying a thousand year death. Our planet is returning home, one last time."

March 21 - "Assault on Iacon"[]

Trypticon launches an assault on Iacon.

2022[]

Apr 09 - Nova Point Observatory Report[]

Perceptor here.

An involved analysis of the datum received from the Nova Point Observatory containing the scans of energies as perceived across many points on Cybertron have been conclusively identified as variations of 'spark energy'. 16 of the various energy signals attributed to the spark signal range were identified in the amalgamated scans as received from multiple points of origin across the Iacon plains and Iacon itself.
Additionally, while the intensity of the actual phenomenon registered low on many traditional scanners, the accumulated 'rivers' or flows of energy were dense enough to leave lingering traces after they dissipated.
Nova Point Observatory and Science Collegium was in the midst of putting forth a theorem of the source or possible sources of the phenomenon roughly 24 to 48 hours ago when the scientific team picked up another minute surge in the area. As they were currently operating the observatory on an active scan of the area to compare to pre-phenomenon baselines, there were able to capture a 30 minute period of time where the ambient energies near the point itself were registering elevated levels of estriol positive ionization traces among others.

After a sequential cross-reference with scientific and historical records, the theorem has been proposed that there may be accumulating activities which are indicating the possibility, despite a low probability of what is commonly known as 'hot spot activity' or more accurately a calidum macula may be forming.

Due to the shifting of Cybertron's surface itself and the subsidence of the plains and Nova Point's own positional changes as compared to past mapping sequences, the exact area of this potential activity does not overlap prior active periods in location.

Ahh... I've been asked to provide a short synopsis: The October event showed signs of spark energies, even if they were very difficult to detect for all of the sites observed. Two nights ago there was another registered event near Nova Point, a location which previously held the honor of having a calidum macula located nearby. The exact location is not the same as history records and further evaluation and research is required for further analysis and determination of possible and probably future events.

Perceptor out.

Oct 31 - Perceptor weighs in[]

The loquacious omniscientist appears on screen for a brief evaluation. He puts a hand to his chinplate in thought, "Having studied the materials presented to me by Kitt, both the physical specimen and the bandwidth, the results, so far are... inconclusive." It's clear that Perceptor hates that word. "The previous alloquitions of Kitt seem to be proper, that these strands attach at a nanomolecular level, to form a near 'living' network. The bandwidth data was showing minimum traffic, constant pings up and down the pipeline. It wasn't currently active during this timeframe. For those intending on returning to this area, I must remind you that nanoactive sites are less dangerous than say...energy exposure, but run their own risks of system rerouting, remote control not unlike Bombshell's cerebroshells, et al. I must insist that all parties returning from any expeditions be required to stay off-site for 48 astrohours in a decontamination protocol before re-admittance. I've assigned Brainstorm to look into the erstwhile esoterics of our departed Skids." He shakes his head sadly, "I shall continue endeavoring forth to perhaps find a destructive means to use against this nanohive."

Nov 04 - Observation of Helex Event[]

Perceptor's visage comes into view:

An analysis of the data collected from both Lunar bases, the Nova Pointe Observatory, and cross-pickup from the satellites we have in orbit deliver a rounded stage by stage of energy accumulation and then deployment into orbit with a limited escape ionization to further regions.
The apparent range of the beam itself extended further than the core accumulation due to an ionization effect which cased energy leakage into the visible spectrum to appear to reach further than what we are labeling the 'active zone'.
Continued ranged observation of the additional body now orbiting Cybertron continues with no marked decay in the orbital path beyond the expected shifting due to the gravitational wells of our more native 'moons'.
In review of the quarantine and those affected by the mandatory period, I can safely report that there has been no sign of any contagion lingering at the end of the period. Congratulations are in order for those that went forth to Helex and returned as well as to those that rapid-set the area and maintained the borders while our heroic fellows took respite after the event, which we have not agreed to historically label as 'The Helex Event' but are referring to as such while data is under review.
Kitt.. Anyone.. If you could spare memory capture stills of what you saw in Helex to add to the record, it would insure a more complete read for the future and reference material to analyze.
Thank you, Perceptor Out.

Nov 05 - Redistribution[]

Perceptor here. It has come to my attention that there is an elevated usage of the facilities inside of Fortress Maximus. While this, nominally would only be a concern as it could mean that he was engaged in heavier combative routines than normal and would require additional resupply runs both over and through any battleground lines that could theoretically be present were it a long term situation, this activity falls well outside what would be considered part of a normalized bell curve.

As this is not so, meaning that Fortress Maximus' battle is not our standardized perception of a fracas, but an internalized situation, once a patient has had any needed trauma-level work performed, been properly stabilized, and are cleared for ground-caravan relocation, they must need be remanded to another full medical facility.

Fortress is -also- a patient at this time. As is Cerebros and Spike. Utilization of Fortress Maximus' space should continue but with the noted addendum that this is for trauma and emergency care. Long term Patient care must and should be at one of our other facilities. This is both for the protection of Fortress and those that seek him for shelter. While he -has- voluntarily gone into a stasis mode, again, his facilities were designed for battle care and trauma, not long term support.

Perceptor Out.

Nov 12 - Medical Update[]

Perceptor's bright blue optics are shown, the camera focused tightly before there's a mumble of 'No not like that' and it widens the view. He's sitting at one of the nurses aux stations in iacon Medical, reviewing datapads of data.

"Perceptor here. After a review and analysis of our medical compliment, and discussing with our technicians, nursing, adjuncts and doctors, a revised schedule has been proposed to insure coverage for the main medical facilities while the research into the Sleeping Sickness and Dark Jem Virus continues. Additional hands from the science team who have applicable medical skills will be added into the rotation.

"In addition, after a review of the work performed on Dust Devil, he is released to full duty after an elongated stay to insure the new legs as designed and crafted by Wheeljack and Arcane integrated correctly. Arcane, himself, has fallen to the same sleeping sickness that has Ratchet in stasis. All affected Autobots are being cared for to the highest of standards so when they wake, they are not troubled by sludge in lines or other items that continued maintenance while they are down will prevent.

"Kitt.. I.. Any of you who were part of the Helex assault internally, I need additional visual data of the 'femme' beneath the altar. For research purposes.

"Perceptor out."

Nov 19 - Addendum and Update[]

Perceptor's randomly active visage pops onto the screen:
"After a lengthy image analysis and comparison with known records combined with additional data from Kitt, it has been determined with a 98% accuracy that the face and femme noted in Helex as being at the nexus of the vines as well as a face among them as Solstice. The report of the femme fleeing once released from the vines gives a calculated 87% chance of her remaining alive even after the explosion.
Backblast has undergone a solo exploratory mission to gather data concerning the current state of the city itself and to determine what impediments may remain prior to sending in an additional group for possible recovery and retrieval. Once he has returned and made his report, the situation will be analyzed to determine the tactical possibility of such a mission.
In addition, it was determined that there was a more practical means for our long term patients comfort and safety in Iacon's own medical facility. A series of Med-habs have been built in a stacked configuration against the eastern wall. These are to be used for stable, yet long term patients such as those affected by the Sleeping Sickness or those who need limited support or medical access while recovering. These will allow our medical staff to monitor them as well as allow for opening the med tables for emergency surgical needs when there is more militant activity and we have an additional trauma patient load.
Each unit is equipped with a full sensor suite, lock down protocols, shield generators in case of a city breech, and small vidscreens so our awake but immobile patients can view reports or perhaps their favorite holodrama. The pods can be separated for relocation, again, in case there is an emergency situation where patients must be evacuated, they can act as single-occupant stasis units should we have an influx of critically harmed patients.
On-duty staff are encouraged to use the empty pods as a means to recharge while between rotations as they have the ability to be tied into the overall patient monitoring system should one have the clearence.
Perceptor Out."

Dec 21 - Report: Solstice[]

Perceptor's visage pops onto the reports screen.

"After an initial triage and repair of critical system damages and with the known uncertainty of exposure to Dark Energon, Infantry Unit Solstice has been remanded to a deep stasis, cold storage until additional research can be performed on her condition. She will remain in high level quarantine, complete with a level 2 hazardous contamination field limiting the potential exposure to others." End Report

2023[]

Jan 22 - Requested updates[]

Perceptor comes onscreen, optics bright, non-nonsense cadence to his voice, clipped and exact as always:

"Good cycle Jazz, Command staff.

With the ongoing distribution of other systemic problems filtering through rank and file, we are at a limit to what new research and projects we can administer. Priority remains this 'Sleeping Sickness' as well as the after effects of the exposure to the subliminal mood depletion signals determined to be housed in music thusly imported from earth. We've successfully determined the source material and are working through removal and counter-programming. I believe Crosscut suggested Spike/Imager/Blaster go to Eurythmia for a solid counter-melody.

We are also focused on supplying Crosscheck with additional materials for his scanners to determine if there are those among us who are of Liege Maximo's people. Factoring in the additional requirement to inspect, document, and scan Nightbird, which requires a tandem effort with security operations as well as medical engineering. As Elita has noted, in-stasis holding outside of a medical necessity is not optimal. We could, however, resort to a spark-level containment. I can put that on Wheeljack's to research list. Our top three focii are this Sleeping Sickness, Liege Maximo agent detection, and a full counter-agent for the Dark Jem virus.

Additionally, the research into the Darius collections remains to be assigned entirely. We're rotating through sample stabilization sequences and running everything everyone has collected through everything we have. There has been an abundance of collected materials from a wide range of sources, locations, and situations and to avoid cross-contamination as well as any miscalculations brought on by fatigue, we've initiated a secondary cross-checking policy to keep everything in order and properly cataloged."

Perceptor peers off camera, frowning, optics dimming, "One autobot's recovery amidst our current staffing and expert limitations is limited to stasis and support. Solstice remains in stasis and will remain there until we are able to give her the attention the situation deserves.

"As for Soundwave, wherever Veritas Prime is, he is certain to be close. As for hot spots, a cursory re-evaluation of past reports indicate that -- now where did I put that.. Oh there it is -CLICK-"

>** END REPORT**<

Mar 10 - Cosmos Missing[]

Perceptors worried face pops up on the report screen:

"Has anyone heard from Cosmos? He was going to run spectral analysis on Earth's primary star during the period of analogous activity and has not reported back in. The last transmission that we received was garbled and static filled which is a reflection of what was happening during the time period but as he is quite usually one to always be prompt in submitting his findings for further analysis I am perplexed as to this unusual deviation from his statistical norm. If someone has assigned him to an additional space mission, please update his roster to preclude further consternation and project research delays."

"Perceptor out."

What-If Universe[]

Decepticon World []

As Bumblebee grew into his role as Autobot leader, Perceptor acted as consel to Bumblebee . Despite the Autobots' losing more and more numbers, Perceptor's support of Bumblebee never waned. Perceptor presided over a failed "No Confidence" vote to Bumblebee's leadership proposed by Springer. Perceptor agreed to carry out the vote, but demanded that regardless of the outcome, the Autobots would put all of their support behind the leader (be it Bumblebee or Springer). Both Bumblebee and Springer agreed, and Bumblebee ended up retaining his position as Autobot leader.

Decepticon World Logs[]

  • October, 2013 - "A Difficult Decision" - Jetfire is brought to a meeting with the leaders of the Autobots. There he outlines the plan he and Bumblebee have come up with. Gradually, the group comes to a sobering realization; someone must die to ensure the future of the Autobots.
  • October, 2013 - "A Hero's Sacrifice" - Jetfire and Ultra Magnus carry out their desperate plan.
  • 2013 November - "Escape to Nebulos" - Megatron and Shockwave attempt to stop the Autobots once and for all as Bumblebee and Springer lead a wounded, ragtag bunch to the Space Bridge.
