CHARBROIL is a member of the G.I. JOE Team and specializes in the use of flame-based weapons, incorporating the latest gas propellents and flammable liquids. He designs flamethrowers that can undermine COBRA fortifications and scatter a blockade of COBRA TROOPERS.
History[]
Canonical/Pre-MUX/Theme History:[]
As a child, Carl G. Shannon used to heat the pipes in his family's home in Blackduck, Minnesota, to keep them from freezing. As a teenager, he worked in mills, feeding coal into blast furnaces. When his army recruiter asked what type of job he was interested, he asked for something with open flames - it was simply something he was comfortable with and used to.
In 1988, Shannon became a flamethrower on the G.I. Joe team, taking the codename "Charbroil". On his first mission, he and several other new recruits fought to keep Cobra from claiming a newly formed island near the original Cobra Island. They barely stopped Cobra before the entire landmass sunk back beneath the ocean.
Sometime later, Charbroil, accompanied Airtight, Spearhead and Tunnel Rat into the sewers under New York City to neutralize nerve gas canisters installed there by Cobra. The gas turned out to be a diversion to stop the Joes from discovering Cobra's true mission in New York. Charbroil served on more missions with the Joes before the team was shut down in 1994.

In 1997, the Joe team was reformed with a smaller roster of active members.
In 2004, Charbroil served on the Anti-Venom Task Force with Barricade, Duke, Mutt, Roadblock, and Sgt. Lifeline. He served the team through 2009.
In 2013, Charbroil, like most former Joes, became a reserve member of team, used less and less often as G.I. Joe actions have become more public and flamethrowers are officially a banned weapon of the US Army. Instead, Charbroil is assigned to domestic operations in the United States, usually as a small-arms armorer.
In 2024, Blowtorch, Charbroil, Ice Cream Soldier, and Blast-Off were added to ECO Force, and Deep-Six, Snowstorm, Barbecue, and Outback moved to ECO's reserves.
