G.B. Blackrock of Blackrock Industries

Blackrock Industries (NYSE: BRI) is one of the world's largest global energy companies. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA and active in more than 180 countries, it is engaged in every aspect of the oil and gas industry, including exploration and production; refining, marketing and transport; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation. Roxxon Oil is Blackrock's major rival.

History[]

Blackrock was originally known as Blackrock Oil of Texas, or BlackTex, and was formed amid the antitrust breakup of Standard Oil in 1911. It was one of the "Seven Sisters" that dominated the world oil industry during the early 20th century.

In 1984, the merger between Blackrock and MexiCo Oil became the largest merger in world history at the time. Because of its size, the newly coined Blackrock Enterprises divested many of its worldwide operating subsidiaries and sold some MexiCo stations and a refinery in the eastern United States to satisfy US antitrust requirements. At the time, Blackrock maintained its corporate headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

In 1990 the company was renamed Blackrock Industries and its headquarters was moved to Washington, D.C.

In 1997 the corporation moved its headquarters again, this time to Houston, Texas.

In 2001, the former Blackrock Industries corporation merged with CaliCo to form BlackrockCaliCo. On May 9, 2005, BlackrockCaliCo announced it would drop the CaliCo moniker and return to the Blackrock name. CaliCo would remain as a brand under the Blackrock Industries.

On August 19, 2005, Blackrock merged with the Unotex Corporation, a move which, because of Unotex's large South East Asian geothermal operations, made Blackrock the largest producer of geothermal energy in the world.

In 2009, in response to the worldwide economic downturn, Blackrock Industries sold off one of its subsidiaries, Blackrock Construction, to an unknown European investor. As a result of this sale, thousands of US employees lost their jobs, including Spike Witwicky.

In 2012 PetroChina surpassed Blackrock as the largest oil producer in the world.

In 2013 Blackrock hired noted adventurer/scientist Carly Witwicky to develop next-generation fuels for the corporation.

In 2015 the Decepticons attacked a Blackrock Oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
