The first thing you notice about the Ballad Bar are the comforting smells of old books and coffee, at least the Cybertronian version of it. The soft light that filters in through the stain glass windows on the back and side walls of the building depict Cybertronian Flora native to Harmonex. Well-placed softly glowing fairy lights add to the cozy atmosphere, their colors ranging from the same rainbow as outside, to a warm yellow color. Fake Crystalline ivy lines some of the walls where couched, modern couches sit in nooks in the wall. Carefully placed seating between the tall shelves of books invite patrons to purchase a book or two and read or listen to the live music from the small stage, or join in with one of their karaoke nights, which has more tables with chairs in front of it. Off to the side and before the stage and sitting area is the origin of the coffee smell. The bar and stools, an interesting mix and the first real sign that this is not just merely a coffee shop. TV's hand over the bar and some of the nooks, for people to watch while they enjoy their drinks.
Drinks[]
The Ballad Bar is known for its high-fidelity acoustics and a menu that caters to the "chatty" crowd looking for a bit of creative inspiration. In keeping with the Altihex vibe, some of these drinks are rumored to have... unregulated additives that fine-tune a bot's vocal processors.
Here are the most popular music-themed Engex blends served at the Ballad Bar:
- The High-Note Header: A sparkling, pressurized blue fuel that hits the intake with a sharp "ping," known for temporarily boosting the pitch of a bot's vocalizer.
- The Reverb Rim: A thick, slow-pour dark energon served in a vibrating glass that creates a rhythmic "echo" sensation in the spark-chamber.
- Static on the Line: A fizzy, crackling concoction popular with the recon-types; it provides a mild "white noise" hum that helps drown out the chaotic micro-voting notifications from the city mainframe.
- The Binary Beat: A two-layered drink consisting of high-grade clear fuel and heavy black sludge; it must be consumed in one go to get the full "rhythm" effect.
- The Synth-Soul Sizzler: A neon-pink blend that glows in time with the user's spark-pulse - highly popular in the western gambling districts.
- The Overdrive Overture: A high-octane racing fuel blend served in a tall, jagged glass; it is the drink of choice for those heading to the Altihex Speedway.
- The Requiem of Praxus: A somber, cooling blue drink often ordered by those mourning the disappearance of the "King," served with a side of silver-flecked metal shavings.
- The Deep-Space Dirge: A pitch-black, heavy-density fuel that is said to be chilled using liquid nitrogen from the northern research labs.
- The Unplugged Ultra: A pure, unrefined "raw" energon for the purists who want to feel every "note" of the energy without any synthetic filters.
- The Screaming Seeker: A volatile, high-pressure shot that "whistles" as it is poured; it is rumored to be the favorite of the new, more expressive clone platoons.
Special "House" Recommendation[]
The Liege’s Lullaby: A secret-menu item that is said to be so smooth it makes the drinker forget their own design schematics. Given the current political climate, ordering this usually earns you a very suspicious look from the bar's private security.
